Social Media Investigating...

The elements of Instagram I want to focus on is the:

- Bio

- Photo Arrangement

- Photo Comments

- The use of Tagging

BIO
When opening an Instagram page, the first thing you look at is the bio. It is very easy to turn people away from your page if your bio isn't very good. Having a professional bio is a must in keeping the viewer interested. As a user of Instagram, I believe a good bio contains...

- Description of business

- Contact info and/or web link

- Hashtag for tagging

- Something cute or quirky

This Instagram page belongs to Bamba Swim. When I first look at their overall page I see a professional and successful label that has it's very unique theme and has separated it's self from other mainstream labels. Their bio contains:

- pronunciation

- quirky saying

- location

- contact info

- hashtag

- web link

They have ticked every box for having a good bio although it is a very long bio. They have used a good range of Lowercase and Uppercase letter as well as an emoji and a few symbols. These elements don't seem like a big deal but the variation of lowercase and Uppercase letter can change the look of the bio dramatically! This bio would be a 9/10 from me only because it is a bit long and it doesn't have a description of business.

This is Sommer Swim's Instagram page. I can tell they are defiantly a professional business because of the logo and page setup. I really like their bio as it isn't too long but its still enough. Their bio contains:

- description

- store info

- contact info

- web link

Again the use of lowercase and uppercase letters is done well and I really love the X emoji's used as dot points! Out of 10 I would give this page a 9.5.

Acacia Swimwear's instagram page seems like a very relaxed and nicely laid out. Acacia has used a lot of capital letters which works well but might be a little too much. Their bio contains:

- description

- contact info

- owner

- web link

This page seems to know what they're doing there for I don't think they'll have a problem with turning away viewers. Looking at this page I would give it a 9/10.

This Instagram page belongs to Bikini Bird. Bikini Birds bio is very plain and not set out as best it could be. Their business is of high quality but their bio doesn't suggest that as best as it could. I believe this is because it's not paragraphed and they have completely lacked uppercase letters, emoji's and symbols. Their bio contains:

- description

- contact info

- web link

I would give this page a 6.5/10 for their bio.

PHOTO ARRANGEMENT

The photo arrangement of an instagram page is a lot harder then it seems. For an instagram page to look attractive and and interesting to the viewer, it must draw them in and make them want more. This is how you get a viewer to see your product. I believe the photo arrangement process is to only pic photos to post that compliment the photo next to it, below it and above it. This means for example not putting two black and white ocean photos next to each other. They will clash especially if you've got no other black and white photos anywhere else. An example of an attractive photo combination would be having one tropical photo of a swimwear model and next to that a photo of the beach. This breaks it up so that colours, angles, objects and landscapes don't clash and course for an unattractive instagram.

This is Bikini Birds instagram photo collage. I believe they have done a great job at arranging their photos because at no point do their photos clash. If we look at the colours, say 'blue' for example, they have 4 blue photos that are not clashing together. This is because either they are not near each other, the blues are different shades of blue or the object or scene in the photo is completely different from each other. Also in this collage there are few photos that are very similar yet they are still showing a theme being tropical and fun. This shows through the amount for tropical palms visible in the collage as well as bright colours and water.

This photo arrangement is good but its not amazing. This is because if you look at the 2 top right corner photos and the one in the middle, they all slightly clash a little because of the amount of grey and monotone. This would be okay if the entire instagram page was themed grey and monotone but its not because of the photos  with bright colour. Although this is not a major issue as the different scenes and objects compensate for that.

COMMENTS + TAGGING

The comment attached to each photo can sometimes make or break the photo. It doesn't seem that hard but making the comment flow has a trick to it. I believe that to make a comment flow it must...

- Use uppercase and lowercase letters

- Break up sentences without fullstops

- Use hashtags but not to many

- Use the occasional emoji

For tagging, its something you cant really stuff up. I love when products and people are tag because its so much easier to have a further look!

This example of tagging and comments by vidasoleil is a good example. As seen in the comment they have used a good amount of uppercase and lowercase letters as well as a good amount of hashtags. I also really like the way they have separated their sentences with '|'.
